UK revenues down at International Power 09 February 2012
|
International Power's UK-Europe revenues decreased 4 per cent to €3,618 with earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation down 14 per cent. In the UK the firm said performance at the 1.2GW combined cycle gas fired plant at Saltend, and the 1GW coal plant at Rugeley, was lower as higher priced contracts signed prior to 2010 came to an end. The mothballing of the former Enron-owned 1.88GW CCGT at Teesside due to reduced demand was also a factor. The plant, Europe's largest CCGT, was mothballed in April. Increases in the industrial and commercial gas and electricity sales were largely offset by higher commodity costs, said the company. International Power said it has contracted 70 per cent of the expected output at Rugeley, 90 per cent at Saltend for 2012, with output at the 500MW Deeside CCGT 10 per cent contracted.
