Neville drops wind turbine from Teletubby home 16 August 2012

Football pundit Gary Neville has dropped plans for a 100ft wind turbine to power his new eco-home.

The former Manchester United captain has been granted planning permission to build the futuristic four-bedroom property on greenbelt moorland between Bolton and Bury.

But local residents were unhappy with the turbine part of partially-underground house and Neville has now come up with alternative carbon-neutral energy plans to keep his neighbours onside.

The plans have been compared to the home of TV’s Teletubbies because of their petal-shaped design.

Mike Ralph, the planning director, from RED Property Services, acting for Neville, told This is Lancashire: “The delivery of a highly sustainable family home has always been central to this proposal.

“Earlier in the year, we met with local residents and confirmed an alternative method of construction was being explored, which would enable the house to achieve a higher standard of sustainability, whilst also enabling the proposed wind turbine to be removed.”

The amount of land taken up has also been reduced with the single-storey original plan now changed to two floors.

Much of the construction work will also take place off-site and the new plans will now be resubmitted to Bolton Council.
